Life Experiment #15: 100 Push-ups In A Month
Last week I began my one month journey to do 100 push-ups. It’s been my goal for a while. I originally heard about this idea when I saw the site HundredPushUps.com I’ve tried a bunch of different workout programs…everything from weight lifting, calisthenics, yoga, stretching and running. I really want something that’s easy to do. Something I don’t need any special equipment to do. And something that I can get progressively better at everyday.
For the next month I’m going to attempt to do 100 push-ups everyday for a month. Will I do 100 the first day?…Hell no. But I can try. I might do at least 50 or 60 my first try. At the end of Navy Boot Camp I did about 70. My goal is to hit 100 consecutive push-ups without putting my knee down and only stopping in the up position. Here is my prediction for what will happen…
Jerry Seinfeld had this philosophy about his comedy. He knew that if he could do one thing, like his comedy writing, everyday he’d improve in the long run. There’s an article on LifeHacker.com about a programmer that talked to Seinfeld about his secret to success. Seinfeld to told his guy that his secret was to mark off each day on a big calendar one year calendar as he completed his writing. At first it may not seem like much, but after a while the calendar started to fill up.
There’s some people that will argue that the muscles needs 48 hours or 72 hours to recover, but my philosophy is to grow we need to push ourselves and if we push ourselves everyday we’re going to get stronger.
Here’s my Push-Up Plan
- Do as many push-ups as I can at least once a day.
- Do as many push-ups as I can till failure for five sets.
- Track my total push-ups and total consecutive push-ups on a graph.
- Here’s my results for each day through the trial:
Other tools I’ll be using:
1. HundredPushups.com – My plan is slightly different than the one listed here, because I’m trying to do 100 push-ups in a month rather than six weeks, but I’ll mainly be using this site for inspiration and guidance. It’s got some great tools with
2. Posting on 43Things.com – It’s great to have tool where you can post your goals along with other people. Looks like 515 other people also want to 100 push-ups too.
By the yard, it’s hard, but inch by inch, it’s a cinch.
