Becoming a vegetarian was actually one of my very first 30 day trials.  As I mentioned in my taking cold showers experiment and raw foods trials, I’ve always struggled with finding ways to control my acne.

My big breakthrough was about 4 years ago when I decided to try out becoming a pescetarian.  I had done a 3-day apple fast before and I knew there was some link between your diet and skin.  From that month on I realized that I had been eating all wrong.

Hypothesis: I’ve already accomplished it.  My skin is amazingly clearer than it was 4 years ago.  But I’ve been a pescetarian for the last four years.  So this trial is me saying good bye to all meats entirely, including seafood, and giving me motivation to someday become a vegan.

SAD– Standard American Diet

The problem lies in the way our society views meat.  In western cultures like the United States, eating meat is a very common practice. That’s because meat is not very expensive and is freely available to these countries. Moreover eating meat is not a taboo in western cultures, unlike some Asian cultures. While eating meat does not harm you immediately, it definitely effects in the long run.

The main reason you should consider becoming a vegetarian is because meat eaters are more at risk of obesity. Today, 34% of the population of America is obese because their diets usually contain a high amount of meat, which makes them more prone to heart, intestinal and abdominal diseases. High consumption of meat can increase your chances of acquiring diseases like Anemia, arthritis, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, gall stones, gout, high blood pressure etc.  Heart disease, which is the number one cause of preventable death, is also the result of eating too many fats and cholesterol.

People who eat beef can also contract the human version of the Mad Cow Disease. In comparison to the above mentioned diseases, there are hardly any serious diseases caused by eating vegetables.

The Benefits Of Eating Vegetables

There are many benefits of eating vegetables. Vegetables contain several mineral, vitamins and nutrients that meat doesn’t provide. Vegetables are low on fats and calories and provide us with a good amount of energy, necessary to work throughout the day. They are fibrous in nature and help in clearing of the bowels. If you are thinking of losing weight and improving your skin, switch over to green leafy vegetables and you will see results. Moreover vegetables are cheaper than meat, which should be a good reason for your to become a vegetarian.

How To Get Started With Vegetarianism

You can start by becoming a vegetarian or at least try to avoid eating meat on a regular basis. You should try eating a lot of raw vegetables like carrots, cabbage, beans, green leafy vegetables etc. on a regular basis. Not only will this help eliminate the toxins in your body, it will also help you get a good skin. People suffering from acne will definitely see an improvement on their skin.

By consuming foods like eggs, milk, spinach, soybean, quinoa, meat, fish, whole grains, rice, beans, legumes, and corn you can derive the much needed protein that you would gain from meat. In other words, you should try to consume a balanced diet that provides your body the needed nutrition. Once you’ve found a good diet plan, you can set your self a time table for exercising, meditating and sleeping.

How Other People Have Benefited From A Vegetarian Diet

A recent study conducted on a group of women in the UK indicated a significant reduction of weight. These women were asked to become vegetarians for a month and consume vegetables in their meals. Besides losing weight, they were also able to improve their stamina, vision and skin.  They were given all sorts of vegetables, spinach being the most important vegetable.   So if you’re interested in looking younger again, then vegetarianism is something you should consider.

How To Resist Eating Meat

The simplest way to become a vegetarian is to check out websites that explain a lot about animal cruelty or Karma. Once you know that you can save a life, you’ll try your best to avoid eating meat. You can try checking out some fitness magazines with pictures of good looking models for inspiration.  Pamela Anderson‘s a vegetarian. If you can’t become a vegetarian, at least try to avoid eating meat in huge quantities and make vegetables a part of your diet. Or you can always start out like me as a pescetarian and only eat seafood.  You can also try searching local groups to help you along the way.

Being A Vegetarian In The Navy

A lot of people on my ship ask me what it’s like being a vegetarian in the military.  Don’t you miss meat?  How do you survive eating only in the galley?  Will to your surprise it’s actually quite easy to get by. Most every ship or shore galley has a wide selection of fruit and vegetables.  This isn’t the 1800’s so were not eating salted pork stored in wood barrels below.  On my ship, there’s a pasta bar with meatless sauce that’s available at every meal. There are plenty of soups and vegetable side dishes to choose from.  So if you are a vegetarian or thinking about becoming one, don’t let this change your decision to join the Navy.
Happy eating! :-)
